Medicare Part D Decisions

On January 1st 2006 medications for "Duals" began being covered by
Medicare Part D plans instead of Medicaid. North Carolina Duals have
been randomly individually auto-enrolled into one of 13 stand alone
prescription drug plans. (Click here for a listing of all 38 NC PDPs and
note that 13 of them have a "Yes" in the "Auto-enrollment" column.)
These 13 are the only plans in which duals can enroll without having
to pay an extra monthly premium. Duals may switch amongst plans as
often as once a month.

Part D plans reimburse pharmacies at a lower rate than NC Medicaid did. All
pharmacies do not participate with all Part D plans. Some Duals may not be
able to use their new plan at the pharmacy they have used in the past.

Note: Medicaid covered 31-days supply but the new PDPs generally cover
30-days supply....please write 'scrips accordingly.
